The play's writer
Andy McCoy tells us a bit about it... The
Workshop has its origins in a real life film making workshop run at the Nuffield
Theatre in Southampton. Originally
set up by Nuffiled Youth Theatre leader Fran Morley and BBC South's Bill Baggs,
its objective was to teach a group of young people a little about the film making
process. Over
the course of a few months we've learnt about acting for the camera and tips on
how to shoot and direct our own movies.
Who knows, out
of this group might come the next Tom Cruise or Steven Spielberg! The
play will take you into a fictional film making workshop which is based on the
real life one. It stars many of the attendees of the real workshop and hopefully
gives us all a chance to show off some of the skills and talents we have learnt.
You
might also recognise the voice talents of some of BBC Radio Solent's presenters
including Alina Jenkins and Richard Cartridge.
Writing
and working on The Workshop was a great experience for me. What was most refreshing
in the real life workshops was how the attendees were so eager to learn about
film making. Be it acting, writing or directing.

a world where we're led to believe that celebrity is king it was good to see that

I was so pleased to see that it wasn't about being famous or rich. We were all
fascinated by the whole process of making movies, in front and behind the camera.
In a world where we're led to believe that celebrity is king it was good to see
that isn't always the case. I
hope the play gives an insight into the workshop and how the group interacts together.
I also hope it raises a few issues to think about or some questions to ponder.
I'm
extremely pleased with the The Workshop and everyone's contribution to it. I can't
thank everyone enough for the time and energy they have put into it. It was fantastic
fun. Both attending the real life workshops and writing the play.
Have a listen, I think you'll enjoy it. |
