Chris Packham
Chris Packham has hidden the Inside Out cache
tiny Geocaching is a sort of treasure hunt, using GPS units. When Inside Out presenter Chris Packham heard about it, he decided to create an Inside Out cache. It contains loads of cool stuff - and a little red hippo who's itching to travel the world.

FACTS
tiny

Our little red hippo was inspired by another stuffed geocacher, called Gulliver the bear. Gulliver has his own website

The Hippopotamus was named so by the Greeks. It means "river horse".

Hippos can close their ears and nostrils so that water doesn't leak in when they go underwater.

A group of hippos is called a "bloat".

Hippos are the third largest land animal, after elephants and rhinos.

A short while ago Inside Out presenter Chris Packham hid a cache, containing all sorts of goodies. Chris also produced a report on geocaching, which you can watch using the link at the left of this page.

The cache is somewhere in the BBC South region and the co-ordinates are available now on the geocaching website.

One of the items in the cache is a camera. We'd like each finder to take a photo of themselves and put the camera back in the cache. Each time the film is full we'll put the pictures here on the BBCi Southampton website - and put a fresh film in the camera.

Have a look at this gallery of the first set of pictures. They're a bit dark so we're going to swap the camera with one which has a flash.

Wildlife expert Chris also included a special friend of his - the little red hippo.

The hippo travelled all over the world with Chris as he filmed for TV shows, including The Really Wild Show and X-Creatures.

Now, the hippo is going it alone as a 'travel bug' and wants to move from cache to cache, hopefully continuing to travel the world.
