The
features came about after an appeal on South Today for viewers memories
of when Doctor Who came to their home/office/backyard for filming.
Loads of stories came flooding in and the team set out to film the
features below which you can see on South Today, BBC One on 12th,
13th and 14th July.
Christine from Weymouth used to babysit the current owner of
Athlehampton House in Dorset, Patrick Cooke, when he was seven and
when they were filming 'The Seeds of Doom' in 1975.

Christine
remembers picking up the green plastic leaves from the Krynoid plant
monster once the crew had left. Patrick remembers Tom Baker kicking
a door in and breaking a key plus watching filming from behind a bush.
Alex from Basingstoke - lived next to a lake in West Sussex which
stood in for Loch Ness in 'Terror of the Zygons' in 1975. The two
companions, Sarah and Harry (Liz Sladen & Ian Marter) came in to use
their loo. She was ill from school and had to sneak up the lane to
watch the filming.
Jonathan - worked at IBM in Portsmouth when they filmed 'Revelation
of the Daleks' in 1985. When we took him back to film his memories
with a Tardis and Dalek prop a rumour got circulated on the Popbitch
website that we were filming the new series there! Loads of staff
came out to watch.

Lynn
from Brighton - was doing a school project in the 1960s and wrote
to William Hartnell asking for an interview about Dr Who, his life
& career. He responded with an eight page essay which is fascinating
stuff. It is quite rare as there is very little in the way of interview
material from the original Dr Who actor.
From the show itself, we interviewed ex-companion Anneke Wills, who
played Polly in 1966-67 at her studio in Purbeck in Dorset. We took
her to Winspit Quarry where she filmed 'Underwater Menace' in 1967.
We also met Gary Downie from Brighton, the man whose job was to drive
around finding suitably extraterrestrial locations in the south! We
filmed him at Arundel castle (which stood in for the not-so-unearthly
Windsor Castle in 'Silver Nemesis' in 1988. |
