INTERVIEWEES

CAROL HEIDSCHUSTER
Carol is Works Manager at Lincoln Cathedral. She talks about the cost of maintaining the Cathedral, its enormous size, how it enables traditional skills to continue to be practised. Carol describes the Cathedral Fellowship which enables apprentices to work at 9 member Cathedrals where they can develop different skills.

GLEN MILLER
Geln is an apprentice stone mason who is taking part in the Cathedral Fellowship apprenticeship scheme.

PAUL ELLIS
Paul is an experienced stone mason and carver who talks about the variety of his work, what appeals to him about his job, the fact that he is perpetuating a traditional craft and using tools similar to those employed by mediaeval craftsmen. Working at the Cathedral is his dream job as it enables him to live a Christian life and his work is appreciated by visitors to the Cathedral.

PETER TOYNE
Peter is a member of the charity 'Friends of Cathedral Music' which was set up by the Revd Ronald Sibthorp. Peter explains that the charity tries to ensure that the choral tradition thrives - he explains its relevance to us today and the problems facing Cathedrals and their choirs. He tells us what the FCM does in a practical way and chats with one of the choristers at Lincoln who currently benefits from the charity.

ARIC PRENTICE
Aric is the Director of Music at Lincoln Cathedral. He talks about the problems associated with recruiting choristers, what Lincoln is doing to attract new members and the benefits of belonging to a Cathedral choir.

JANE DRUMMOND
Jane is a member of the Cathedral needlework group. She talks about the different types of work done in the Cathedral by the group - banners, kneelers, robes etc. She explains that hand embroidery is a threatened craft as much is now done by machine. She describes the pleasure the group gets from needlework, the process or conserving and repairing textiles and that it is an honour to have one's work displayed in the Cathedral.

NORMAN BONNER
Norman is a retired master carpenter. He visited Lincoln on a pilgrimage with his family and decided to write to the Cathedral asking for a job - he ended up being a master carpenter there for 21 years. Norman describes the challenges of working with wood which dates back to mediaeval times, explains why he finds carpentry fulfilling and his role in Cathedral life.

STEVE LEWIS
Steve is a glazier at the Cathedral - he describes and demonstrates the range of skills needed to be a restorer. He talks about the different types of stained glass and the timescales involved in restoration.
