| GLADYS GELL and IVY ADAMS
Gladys and Ivy have been best friends for 70 years. They met when they started work as office juniors for Boots in Nottingham. Now that they're in their mid-eighties, they don't get much chance to meet up, so Songs of Praise brought them together for afternoon tea at a hotel near Gladys's home in Nottingham, and brought Ivy specially from Skegness. At the hotel the ladies reminisce about the early days, discuss how faith is at the centre of their lives, and how that is just one of the many things they have in common. Interview location: Thoresby Hall Hotel near Nottingham. http://www.warnerbreaks.co.uk/thoresby-hall/thoresby-hall.asp JAYNE FRANKLAND and LYNNE SONLEY Jayne and Lynne became friends when Jayne became a surrogate mother for Lynne. They explain how friendship is at the heart of most surrogacy arrangements and how - since the birth of Lynne's baby Isaac - they have stayed close and meet up regularly. Unique to their story is the extra-special bond Jayne has with Lynne ? as Jayne herself knows exactly what it?s like to be in Lynne's shoes. Years before, when Jayne was starting a family of her own, she herself found herself unable to have a baby. Only after a surrogate had a baby for her did her own fertility miraculously return. She is the only woman in Britain to had a child via a surrogate and gone on to being a surrogate mother herself. More information about surrogacy can be found at; www.surrogacyuk.org LANCE CORPORAL CHRIS FINNEY and ALAN TUDBALL Chris and Alan are friends who were part of D Squadron, the Household Cavalry Regiment, in Iraq in 2003. When the scimitar vehicle they were travelling in came under fire, Chris rescued his friend Alan from the burning vehicle. He received the George Cross for his bravery, and is the youngest serviceman ever to receive it. |
