If that inspires you read on for more details on how you can have a go at fundraising yourself or if you want to join in the fun at an organised event. Here's a list of the events lined up for Children in Need on 14 November 2008: ![]() Butlins will host a pillow fight Public events:
Pillow fight at approximately 1949 doors opening from 1500 Join in the fun at Butlins Minehead and help us attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the largest pillow fight on live TV in aid of the BBC Children in Need Appeal 2008. Entry is free, although a suggested donation of £1 will be gratefully received. Pillows will be provided!
The BBC Somerset Bus is hosting a day of entertainment for Children in Need. We will have an array of singers, musicians, poets and dancers all performing for free to help us raise money. Pudsey will be with us throughout the day. And if that wasn't enough then Emma Britton will be holding a keep fit class at 1130, Adam Thomas will be taking a turn in the stocks at 1200 and Steve Yabsley will be bringing his whole show live from the bus between 1200 and 1400. Come along, join in the fun and help us to support Children in Need.
A fun ice rink will be open to the public and all the money raised will go to Children in Need.
24 hour pool-a-thon organised by Coopers Mill Pool Team.
Coffee Morning, Childrens Disco 1600 - 1900. Guess the weight of the cake, Guess the number of sweets in the jar, Stocks (Landlord and Landlady to have a soaking!!) Colouring (Pudsey). Competition for age groups 0 - 5, 6 - 8 and 9+ Quiz night 2000 - 2130. Family Disco - 2130 till late. A couple of the local gents to be waxed for charity!!!
Staff at Somerlap Forest Products in Mark, Somerset, have joined forces with a local Scout Group to offer a 'relaxing' car wash experience. We shall be serving tea, coffee and biscuits to the public whilst having their car washed by the Weare and District Boy Scouts. Somerlap Fencing & Timber Products, Wells Road, Mark, Somerset, TA9 4NR, Saturday 08 November from 1000 - 1200.
Romilly (3) and Jemima (18mths) are hosting this event. Last year they raised over £800. All villagers and friends are invited. Around 50 came last year.
The pub is hosting a triathlon of darts, table skittles and ten pin bowling.
24 hour cycling marathon is being held in the gym from 0800 Friday til 0800 Saturday. School/nursery events:
Youngsters will be dressing up in as many colours as possible, holding a cake sale, and take part in fun games.
13th Yeovil Brownies have been collecting odd pennies to help CiN for part of their badge. They have been raising cash all year, at Birchfield Hall in Yeovil on Monday nights.
Students and staff from Bucklers Mead Community School, Yeovil will be taking part in a rowing marathon. There will be two teams of eight and each team will complete a distance of 64km (the equivalent of rowing across the English Channel and back) on an indoor rower taking it in turns to row 1000m at a time. The event starts at 0900 and finishes around 1500. The students are from the Year 10 Aspire Group (all students have additional learning needs) and are using this event to evidence working with others. The group have designed their own t-shirts which they will be modelling on the day with their chosen nickname on the back. Stunts:Sponsored cycle, swim and run: Four teenagers from Latcham near Cheddar are being sponsored to swim 25 lengths, cycle three miles, canoe 1 mile, and run 1 mile. They are Helen Bennett (14), her brother Robert (12) adn friends Jake (12) and Toby (12). Steve Wilkinson is having a Backwards Day which is going to involve him wearing his clothes backwards, and walking backwards at the Cannington College for Land Based Studies. 15 & 16 November: Mark Rhodes will be holding a charity abseil at Uphill Quarry, Weston-super-Mare 7 November: Nick Thurston from Frome spent a night in the most haunted rooms at Jamaica Inn, as well as other ghostly places 25 October: 10,000 skydive by Samantha Ball at Dunkeswell Airfield If you want to get involved this year then come and pick up a fundraising pack from our offices in Taunton or from the BBC Somerset bus.
