![]() A series of explosions caused by a faulty tar heater at the Southgate retail development resulted in wide-scale disruption in Bath city centre. Several roads around the Southgate area were closed off. People living nearby were evacuated from their homes overnight, they are now being allowed to return. Bath Spa train station was shut for a short time but it later re-opened. ![]() Southgate shopping centre, Bath Four gas canisters blew up at the £360m SouthGate retail development site on Tuesday evening, shooting flames 50ft (15m) into the air. A 150m exclusion zone around the blast site has been lifted and the affected roads have been reopened. A spokesman from Multi Development UK Ltd said: "A full independent investigation will take place to determine the precise cause of the fire.
