95.5 Herdmate

New borns join a toddler group after 48

Big Udder gives birth to 95.5

One of the stars of Big Udder, an online reality TV show following a herd of Jersey cows, has given birth to a baby calf named BBC Somerset's new FM frequency.

A cow named after BBC Somerset's new FM frequency and the star of an online reality TV show has given birth.

Herdmate 95 gave birth to a gorgeous 40lb female calf on Wednesday morning. It will be nicknamed 95.5 until a new name is decided as part of a competition.

The calf features on Big Udder, a 24-hour internet show whereby viewers can watch farmer Dom Lane's herd of dairy cows throughout the year.

The show mimics Big Brother, and features hosts Davina McCow with Dermot O'Creamy.

'Sweet looking'

Mr Lane said it was a quick birth which caught them all unaware.

"She was wobbly on the first day but she's standing up and feeding well.

"These first few days are really important; it's just the same as a human baby. We need to get lots of nutrition in there to generate a healthy little animal to grow up."

Dom said 95.5 was gorgeous and that all Jersey cows are "very, very sweet looking and the calves are even more so".

Each of the cows on the Big Udder farm produce a calf a year. There is even a 'toddler' group for new borns to join. They are then integrated into the main herd and are ready to produce milk after 28 months.
