10Radio here to stay

The community radio station for Wiveliscombe, Milverton and surrounding parishes has been awarded a new licence, which means you'll be able to tune in all day, every day.

Set up by local residents in 2005, 10Radio has been operating for just one month a year under Ofcom's Restricted Service Licence (RSL) scheme.

But after going through the formal application process, the station has now been awarded a new five-year licence by the independent regulator, allowing it to broadcast on a daily basis.

Speaking to BBC Somerset Sound's Tony Adams, Julian Mellor, the director and co-founder of 10Radio, said: "We're there to provide something unique - it's the local focus that we will bring which will give it that distinctive quality.

"We'll be talking about the issues that matter and that are relevant to people living and working in the area."

On 13 February 2007, Ofcom awarded a new community radio licence to Somer Valley FM.

The station will aim to create a vibrant and exciting, socially inclusive, training-orientated radio service for the communities of Midsomer Norton, Radstock and surrounding areas.
