Remarkably, this will be Elton's first performance in Taunton since 1976 - he played the Taunton Odeon on his Louder than Concorde Tour on 30 May of that year.

The concert is a major coup for the County Ground and Somerset County Cricket Club who have been working for some time to stage live concerts - and they don't come much bigger than this!

Giles Clarke, Chairman of SCCC, said: "We are delighted that our first concert will feature Sir Elton John who will provide a memorable evening for those attending."

In 2005 Elton John staged a series of successful concerts in football clubs around the country:

As a result of the response, he is undertaking an extended series of concerts in 2006.

The Rocket Man will perform over two hours of hits, including Your Song, Bitch is Back, Are You Ready for Love?, Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me and I Want Love.

In March 2006, it was announced that The Storys, from Wales, will be Elton's special guests at the gig.

Elton said: "They have made a fantastic debut album, and I am really excited that they will be playing with me on tour."

The wife bought tickets yesterday (Fri) and I can't wait - Sir Elton is a true legend and he's coming to Taunton. Wen to pick up tickets today but they won't be ready until after 12.00 on the day, the roads have cones out ready for tomorrow, I think it's going to be one of the biggest things that's happened in the west.
