Somerset Sounds - Artists

From the Deep
From the Deep like classic metal bands

From the Deep

Meet From the Deep from Shepton Mallet. They play metal with rock and thrash leanings - rock on, people!

Who are From the Deep?

George Paris on guitar and vocals, Rob Collier on guitar and vocals, Tom Pennyfather on bass, and Max Spenn on drums.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Shepton Mallet

When did you form?

From the Deep
Rob on guitar and vocals

Early 2004

How did you get together?

We were a group of friends who all played instruments, and we thought we should make a band.

How would you describe your music?

Metal with rock and thrash leanings

How did the band gets its name?

We were originally called Switch, but we changed our name after Max wrote a story in English called From the Deep!

Who are your musical influences?

We all bring in separate influences, but our main ones are definitely classic metal bands like Metallica etc.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

From the Deep
Tom on bass, and Max on drums

We have had some lush gigs, but the Pilton Working Men's Club heat of the Mid-Somerset newspapers Battle of the Bands was definitely the best so far.

We came third and were only one vote behind second place, which went to OutSet.

Where would you most like to play?

We are happy to play anywhere, but we would most like to play at Glastonbury Festival and the Download Festival in Donnington.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

We formed when we were 11. By the age of 12, we had performed a number of gigs including a Battle of the Bands at Strode Theatre.

At the age of 13, we came third in a Battle of the Bands competition against six other well known local bands.
