Shelley, who trains at the University of Bath, will start the 25th anniversary edition of the race at 11am. "I'm sure lots of people will want to turn out on the day to wish her well," said Race Director Andrew Taylor. "Shelley is an inspiration to many young aspiring athletes." Up to 10,000 entrants are expected to run the fast, flat course which starts and finishes in Great Pulteney Street. Half Marathon Weekend For the less energetic, there's a Family Sports Day on Saturday 18 March. The day includes a family fun run, supervised sports activities, markets stalls and refreshments. The event runs from 10am until 4pm on the Bath Recreation Ground. Which are the chosen charities for the 2006 event? The lead charity for the event in 2006 and 2007 is CLIC Sargent, which helps to care for children with cancer. The race organisers say they would like half of the money raised to help local charities. Their featured local charity for 2006 is SWALLOW - South Wansdyke Learning and Living Our Way. Based in Midsomer Norton, it is a small local charity, which supports people with learning disabilities in the Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol and North Somerset areas. |
