Beverley reading Chris's tarot cards
Beverley reading my tarot cards

Britain's first psychic cafe... in Somerset!

Britain's first psychic cafe has opened up right here in Somerset, in Weston-super-Mare. Being quite a sceptical person, I decided to head there to find out more. Little did I guess, I'd end up getting my tarot read as well - shows how psychic I am!

Chris Ellis

The Angel Spiritual Cafe in Weston-super-Mare offers a wide variety of unique and specialist spiritual practices, including spiritual readings, all sorts of healings, hypnosis, reflexology, reiki, as well as spiritual courses, to name just a few.

"I work with the cards in a manner to which they tell the picture and the whole story. It's the way you interpret the cards that's important."
Beverley Nicholson

The owners of the Sandringham Villa Guest House, Alex and Ann Petrie, decided to open the cafe after running various spiritual development groups, which had proved popular.

"Other psychic cafes are information centres, but here at the Angel Spiritual Cafe, you can sit and meet real clairvoyants, real mediums, and real healers, who will meet the needs you have," Alex said.

The tarot reading

Before the tarot reading began, spiritual medium Beverley Nicholson explained the process to me.

"The tarot tells a story of a young boy," Beverley said. "He goes through his life, just as we do, and the tarot tells me the answer to the question that you've asked."

Beverley instructed me to think of a question that I wanted answered, which the tarot cards would then hopefully reveal.

The question I chose to ask was: would I be OK when I go to university? This is a topic that has been preying on my mind for sometime.

Throughout the reading Beverley was totally unaware of what my question was.

She didn't know I'm about to head off to university, and she had, in fact, assumed I was working full time for the BBC!

"All I go with is the pictures on the cards. I work with the cards in a manner to which they tell the picture and the whole story.

"It's the way you interpret the cards that's important."

I believe!

As the tarot reading progressed, I was actually quite surprised how my question was being answered. I found I could relate to the various things that Beverley was telling me when she was reading the cards.

Such insights included the fact that I would be moving on from Somerset within three months, that I had been waiting to move on for some time (hence my gap year), and that I have signed a contract, which relates to my university place.

Some people may see this as a coincidence, but I do believe that it was something more.

Beverley even stated: "I actually thought you were quite settled within your job when I first met you, but reading the cards it told a different story completely."

(By the way, I am happy in my job, but I have to go to university!)

It seems tarot reading runs in the family, as Beverley's son Ryan did a public reading when he was 11, to an audience of 70 people!

All in all, this was a great and unique experience for me, and I am definitely more of a believer after having my tarot read.

where is the cafe in weston we would like to come to have a reading. (Ed: the link to the cafe's website on the right.)

Chris, I know exactly how you feel. I too was anxious before leaving the West Country to go to university and I too visited a fringe mystic for a tarot reading. Would I be able to cope with the workload? Would I finally find that one person who, on sight of my wobbly bits, not stifle a giggle. Would I be persecuted for the way I spoke? In the end I decided to stay and I ended up opening and running a successful pet shop. You may think that there is more out there but the cards tell their own story.
