OutSet on stage at Glasto 2005

OutSet are a melodic metal band from Shepton Mallet. They only formed in the spring of 2003, but they've already played at Glastonbury Festival, and count the late John Peel as a fan!

Who are OutSet?

Danny Hayes on drums, Matt Hewitt on guitars, Jack Spenn on guitars, Casey Howell on bass, and Will Blake on vocals.

Where in Somerset are you from?

Shepton Mallet

When did you form?

OutSet are into screamo and alternative

Spring 2003

How did you get together?

We were all good friends from a young age but drifted apart. We all started playing music and this brought us back together, so we started the band.

How would you describe your music?

Melodic metal. We include a variety of styles in our music - recently, we've been veering towards bands such as Aconite Thrill, Unearth, and many other rock-based bands.

How did the band get its name?

I guess you could say it came out of us becoming friends again - playing music was like a new start for us.

Who are your musical influences?

Each member of our band has their own musical influences, but our general styles of influence are rock, metal, funk, screamo, and alternative.

What is your most memorable gig so far?

Will Blake on stage at Glasto 2005

I think it has to be Glastonbury Festival, because the late John Peel came to watch us.

He said in various interviews that OutSet, along with PJ Harvey, were the best acts at Glastonbury 2004.

Where would you most like to play?

I think it would be a great honour to play on the main stage at Glastonbury Festival, but I know we would love to play somewhere like Download Festival.

Finally, tell us some interesting facts about yourself

Although we have had good success in the local area of Somerset without a lead singer, we have recently held auditions and Will Blake has now joined the band on vocals.

You can see photos of OutSet on the John Peel stage at Glastonbury 2005, and listen to an interview with the band, by clicking on the link at the top of this page.

OUTSET are the most exciting thing to come out of Shepton Mallet since the invention of margarine !. Of course I taught them everything that they know and am looking forward immensely to spending my retirement in a mansion with lots of servants and fast cars all paid for out of their royalties !!
