Unsigned Bands and Performers

The Deadbeats
The Deadbeats won the Acoustic Final

Glasto 2005 Acoustic Stage Unsigned Final

The Glastonbury Acoustic Stage Unsigned Final took place on Friday 18 March. Find out who won the prestigious prize of playing on the Acoustic Stage at this year's Glasto, and listen to exclusive interviews with the bands.

Now in its second year, the Glastonbury Unsigned Performers Competition gets thousands of entries from bands competing for slots on the John Peel Stage, the Dance Tent, the Acoustic Stage and the Jazz World Stage. The overall winner gets to play on the Other Stage.

The Glastonbury judges listen to three tracks from every CD which is sent in, and finally whittle down the entries to just six bands per category, who then have to battle it out in the Finals competition at the Pilton Working Men's Club.

And the winner is...

The six finalists who competed in the Acoustic Stage Unsigned Final were Jim Moray, Scouting for Girls, Second Person, Red Hand Band, The Deadbeats, and Whalebone Polly.

The groups had just 20 minutes each to impress the judging panel, which comprised Paul Charles, Acoustic Stage Programmer, Eddie Barcan, Avalon Stage Programmer, Alan Rhodes from Radio 1, and Michael Eavis.

The finalists all took to the stage, but it was The Deadbeats from Manchester who won the exclusive slot of playing on the Acoustic Stage at Glasto 2005.

the deadbeats really rocked at glastonbury - saw them support the coral on the friday night in bath before they made their debut performance at glasto on saturday on the other stage. Really confident and havin' a great time - the fact that they blast out their tunes seated doesn't make one bit of difference to their charismatic performance - lots of foot stompin' going on and the crowd just loved them - the gig on the accoustic stage was just electric!! Let's hear more from them.

The Deadbeats really rocked the place and were worthy winners and deserve a bigger audience!

So yes, an odd mix of bands for the Accoustic Tent. Because of that the Red Hand Band couldn't have won as they weren't accoustic and much too ROCK!! They were easily the best band there on the night. Polished, professional, tall good looking and with killer tunes. I hope to see them there on the John Peel Stage this year! X

I think it was an odd mix of bands to choose for the Acoustic stage, I must say they were all great though! Second Person were prob the most interesting and beautiful to listen to, but the Deadbeats were def the best for the Acoustic stage that evening - rock on guys!

Red Hat and Purple Suit
The Deadbeats are wonderfully talented and are destined for great things! (I am only a little biased being the Drummer's mother!!) Enjoy!
