How and Why?

Man selecting sound effects

How to give your Mac a Sonic Somerset makeover!

This page explains how to customise your computer desktop with the sounds you download from Sonic Somerset.

From the list of WAV files (WAV is short for sound waves) within the Sonic Somerset section, select a sound you'd like.

For Mac users, things are a little more involved than for PC users! The only event sound that can be re-assigned is the Alert Beep.

If you want to be able to assign sounds to other events, you'll need additional event sound software on your machine. You'll have to search the web or consult a computer-software seller about this.

How do I preview a sound?

If you want to listen to a preview of the sound, left-click with your mouse on the link to the sound you want to preview.

An audio player (like Real Player) should pop up and play a preview of the sound.

How do I download and assign a sound?

To use a sound as your Alert Beep, it must be placed in your Sound folder. This file is located in your System Folder.

To install a sound there, first quit all applications.

Download the WAV by holding down the (Apple) Control key and clicking on the link.

Choose Download link to disk and save the file to the desktop.

Next, drag the sound file off the desktop to your Sound folder and choose it from the selection of WAVs there as your Alert Beep.

For more details, go to the section in the computer's help file about changing the alert sound.

We hope you enjoy Somerset in all its sonic glory!
