GoElemental
Find out what the elements are all about

GoElemental in Bath

Ever wondered what that periodic table in science class is really all about? What the elements actually are and how they all work? Well now you can get to grips with it all as a new and interactive project comes to Bath.

GoElemental is an innovative work based around the periodic table of elements.

A three-day interactive animation, it will be screened open-air in Bath between 6pm and 9pm, from the 17–19 December on a wall opposite the Little Cinema in St Michael's Square.

Text and interact

GoElemental
Text in and see your chosen element

Aiming to make science fun and interesting, it shows how all the elements fit into our daily lives.

Using your mobile phones, you'll be able to text an element's name to a number provided at the show to find out where that element is used and what it does.

On receiving the request, the projection will show a funny or exciting animation of your chosen element.

The elements as art

GoElemental has been developed by Kerry Bradshaw, an MA student at Bath Spa University college, in collaboration with James Grierson from the Science department at Oxford Community school, and Peter Bradshaw, based in San Francisco, USA.

"I hope people come away with an insight into how exciting the periodic table is. I hope it sparks a sense of wonder about the world around us."
Kerry Bradshaw

Having always been intrigued by the periodic table, and inspired by a light sculpture in Winchester Cathedral gardens, Kerry Bradshaw researched the elements and set about finding a suitable public space in which to project GoElemental.

Five months later, with help from her brother on the technical side of things, and with friends featuring in many of the animations to help tell the story of the elements, GoElemental was finished.

Kerry says: "I hope people come away with an insight into how exciting the periodic table is, how the elements relate to people in their everyday lives.

"I hope it sparks a sense of wonder about the world around us."
