The matriarch
Chimpanzees can live for 40–50 years in the wild and when we first meet Fifi she is already 39. Born into the royalty of chimpanzee families, she has always been fascinated by juveniles, often 'kidnapping' her younger siblings to groom and play with – a great lesson for motherhood – and what a mum she is!
