By Deirdre Summerland

"Mum, she's laughing at me."
"Mum, he's hit me."
"Mum, where is my hat?"
"Mum, my shoes have gone."
"Mum, have you got them?"
"Is tea ready Mum?"
"Mum, Mum!"
"Dad, where is Mum?"
"Gone for a week's peace."

It's so peaceful.
No one shouting.
No one demanding.
No one arguing.
No one wanting anything.
Just me and my book.
Time to do what I want when I want.
But still I wish my family was here.

Home again, how wonderful.
"Mum" shout the kids.
"Cup of tea Mum?
Come put your feet up.
We have made our beds.
Tided our rooms.
Washed up for Dad.
But Mum, we did miss you."

Deirdre is a full-time housewife and mother and a lunchtime supervisor at a primary school. She has been attending a Link class at Brooksby Melton College for the past year.

What do you like to do when you have a quiet moment?
