By Bhavna Patel
A father and daughter
Go to a printable version of this story

My father was born in India in 1937. He still lives in India with my mum. He has got three children, two boys and one girl. I am the girl who is writing this story.

My father was a clerk in the high school but he is retired now. When he married my mum she was not a teacher but my father sent her to study further and she became a teacher. She is also retired now. We used to live in a small house but now my father bought a bigger house and lives there with his wife. Both his sons are in Canada, and I am in England. All three children are married and all are happy with their families.

When my father was a clerk, he used to go to work in the school and help his wife in the kitchen. He is a very good cook. He also used to go to his field after work to grow fruits and vegetables. If anybody needs help in the village he is always there.

The years I stayed with my father he never slapped me or said any bad word to me. He always used to help me with my study. I remember when my father used to go to the town for shopping or to do work for the school he always used to buy something for me to eat. As soon as he came in the house, I used to take bag from him to look what he had got for me.

When I phone my mum and dad they always give me a good advice and always ask me if I want something so they can send it by post. I miss my mum and dad a lot, especially my father.

This piece was written by Bhavna Patel, who is studying at Deane and Derby Local Learning Centre in Bolton.
Bhavna has two sons, Sanjay and Dipesh, and has just celebrated her tenth wedding anniversary with her husband, Gunvant.

Is there someone special in your family?
