In the Skillswise module you'll find:
Syllables Game
In this game the learner has to decide the amount of syllables in each word. Words appear on a factory conveyer belt and are voiced. Every time the correct number of syllables is identified the word will break up into syllable chunks and a part of a robot will be created. If all of the answers are correct a fully completed robot will be built by the end of the game. There are 3 levels in this game with different amounts of words in each level and all of the words are voiced.
TOP TIP! To see the game completely full screen, press the F11 key on the keyboard. This takes away the distraction of the top browser bar. To bring the browser bar back, just press F11 again!
Syllables Quiz
The learner can choose their level. Level A is the easiest, level C the hardest.
We have now put in place a system that will allow the student to print out a certificate if they score 50% or more in the quiz. This will appear as a link on the results page - click on the link and the certificate will appear in a new window. A learner can write their name in once the certificate is printed.
Please note - this quiz uses sound. For the free software you will need to hear this sound, please see below.
Syllables Factsheet
A guide to syllables, with examples, on one 'print-out-and-keep' sheet.
Syllables Worksheet
A printable resource to carry on the work learners have done online, in class or at home. Learners can cut up a selection of words into syllables and can then either put the words back together or try and make new words. There is also a printable answer sheet.

Haiku poetry: Helen from Nottinghamshire has sent a lovely Haiku poem to 'Your stories'. Haiku poems must add up to 17 syllables, so they might be a useful tool in your teaching. Why not read Helen's poem and then get your class to have a go?
