Casualty episode (Series 16, episode 28, from 16th March, 2002)

Patrick had made an appointment to see a flat up for sale in London. He was so excited about it that he asked Lara yet again to marry him. However, Lara felt she couldn't give up her job at Holby and move to London and the two of them said goodbye, still with nothing decided.

Patrick was on the road to London when suddenly he saw two crashed vehicles ahead of him. He pulled the wheel over so hard that he swerved off the road on to the verge. Luckily he was able to stop the car and get out with only a few cuts and bruises. Then he realised that one of the crashed vehicles was a school van full of children, some of them bleeding badly. He grabbed his first aid box and ran to the van, where he managed to get the door open and climb inside among the terrified children.

Suddenly, there was another terrible crash, and the school van with Patrick and the schoolchildren all inside went right over the embankment. A lorry coming up behind had not seen the van in time and had ploughed into the back of it, pushing it off the road. By now the children were hysterical and Patrick had to calm them down so that he could begin to attend to their injuries. He didn't realise that they were in a pile-up, that the real cause of the pile-up was a crashed petrol tanker up ahead of them and that the tanker might blow up at any minute ...
