Emotive words and alternatives

Aim: introduce emotive language, revise file managment (ICT)
Objectives: discuss emotive language, work through exercises on disk and use thesaurus to find different words, analyse a piece of emotive writing. Write emotively
Outcomes:  By the end of the session learners will be able to load text from floppy disk and transfer to hard disk/ other floppy disk; use the thesaurus in Word to select words of the same meaning; recognise emotive language and write in an emotive way.

Lesson Notes: 
Open the worksheet associated with this lesson plan. Open the Word table then use the thesaurus in Word (Shift F7) to look up the main word to find a slightly less emotive and then a neutral one that can be used instead. Save and print the table and format if formatting skills are needed. Can also be sorted alphabetically.
Extension activities
Take one news feature from today's paper and compare the way it is reported in different papers.
Analyse for emotive writing.
