'Volume' tutor notes

This module is about finding out how to work out volumes. It is aimed at Level 1 of the Basic Skills Curriculum in England, Wales and Northern Ireland and covers material in MSS1/L1.10.

Calculating volumes factsheets
There are three factsheets, each on 'print-out-and-keep' sheets. You'll find curriculum references in the top right corner of the factsheets:

  • Factsheet 1 - Introduction
  • Factsheet 2 - Cubes and cuboids
  • Factsheet 3 - Practical examples
  • Factsheet 4 - Cylinders - this is Level 2 but may be a useful extension for students interested in volume at Level 1.

Calculating volumes worksheets
There are three worksheets. You'll find curriculum references in the top right hand corner of the worksheets. These are printable resources to continue work that learners have completed online.

  • Worksheet 1 - Introduction
  • Worksheet 2 - Cubes and cuboids
  • Worksheet 3 - Practical examples

Volume quiz
The quiz has questions on calculating volumes. The learner can choose their level. Students can print out a certificate if they score 50% or more in the quiz. This will appear as a link on the results page - click on the link and the certificate will appear in a new window. Students can write their name on the certificate once it's printed.
