Here are the key words you will come across when measuring length, weight and capacity.
| weight | Weight is the measurement of how heavy something is. |
| grams g | A unit for measuring small weights, such as in cooking. g is the abbreviation for gram. |
| kilogram kilo kg | A unit for measuring large weights, such as of a person. Kilo and kg are abbreviations for kilogram. |
| length | Length is the measurement of something from one end to the other. Length can also be called: width, distance, height, diameter, thickness etc. |
| millimetre mm | A unit for measuring tiny lengths, such as the thickness of cardboard. It means one thousandth of a metre. mm is the abbreviation. |
| centimetre cm | A unit for measuring small lengths, such as the length of a pencil. It means one hundredth of a metre. cm is the abbreviation |
| metre m | A unit for measuring long lengths, such as the width of a room. m is the abbreviation |
| kilometre km | A unit for measuring longer lengths, such as distances. It means one thousand metres. km is the abbreviation. |
| capacity | Capacity is the amount a container can hold. |
| millilitre ml | A unit for measuring small capacity, such as liquid for a recipe. It means one thousandth of a litre. ml is the abbreviation for millilitre. |
| litre l | A unit for measuring large capacity, such as the petrol capacity of a car. l is the abbreviation for litre. |
