Changing fractions to percentages

To change a fraction to a percentage you start off with a fraction and you want to write it as a percentage.
A percentage means how many out of a hundred.
So The fraction 1 over 2. as a percentage is a The fraction 1 over 2., half, of the hundred.
      The fraction 1 over 2. of 100 = 50
so The fraction 1 over 2. = 50%  (remember to add the % sign)

The same for The fraction 1 over 4.
The fraction 1 over 4. as a percentage is a The fraction 1 over 4., quarter, of a hundred
     The fraction 1 over 4. of 100 = 25
so The fraction 1 over 4. = 25%  (again, remember the % sign)

For more difficult fractions you can work it out using a sum. For example:
The fraction 3 over 4. as a percentage is The fraction 3 over 4. of a hundred
The fraction 3 over 4. x 100 = (3 ÷ 4) x 100
               = (0.75) x 100
               = 75
so The fraction 3 over 4. = 75%

Here are some more done as sums:

The fraction 1 over 5. x 100  =  (1 ÷ 5) x 100  =  (0.2) x 100  =  20  so  The fraction 1 over 5. = 20%

The fraction 1 over 3. x 100  =  (1 ÷ 3) x 100  =  (0.333) x 100  =  33.3  so The fraction 1 over 3. = 33% to the nearest percentage

The fraction 2 over 3. x 100  =  (2 ÷ 3) x 100  =  (0.666) x 100  =  66.6 so The fraction 2 over 3. = 67% to the nearest percentage

Another method is to use equivalent fractions. For example to find The fraction 1 over 2. as a percentage write it as an equivalent fraction over 100:
The fraction 1 over 2. = The fraction 50 over 100.  which is like saying 50 out of 100, which is written as 50% using the percent sign.
Here are some more done using equivalent fractions:

      The fraction 1 over 4. = The fraction 25 over 100.     so The fraction 1 over 4. = 25%
      The fraction 1 over 10. = The fraction 10 over 100.    so The fraction 1 over 10. = 10%
      The fraction 9 over 10. = The fraction 90 over 100.    so The fraction 9 over 10. = 90%
      The fraction 1 over 50. = The fraction 2 over 100.    so The fraction 1 over 50. = 2%
