Changing fractions to decimals using division

To change a fraction to a decimal you can do it by a division.
You can think of a fraction like The fraction 1 over 2. as meaning 1 ÷ 2
If you work out 1 ÷ 2 you get it as a decimal.
     1 ÷ 2 = 0.5
     so The fraction 1 over 2. = 0.5

In the same way The fraction 3 over 4. is 3 ÷ 4 so The fraction 3 over 4. = 3 ÷ 4 = 0.75

And The fraction 1 over 10. is 1 ÷ 10 so The fraction 1 over 10. = 1 ÷ 10 = 0.1

You can work these divisions out using a calculator if you like.

This method works for any fraction. Here are some more examples:

      The fraction 1 over 4. = 1 ÷ 4 = 0.25
       The fraction 2 over 5. = 2 ÷ 5 = 0.4
     The fraction 1 over 20. = 1 ÷ 20 = 0.05
     The fraction 3 over 50. = 3 ÷ 50 = 0.06
    The fraction 1 over 100. = 1 ÷ 100 = 0.01
