Raymond Barneveld has won his third Embassy World Darts title following a stunning 6-3 victory over Wales' Ritchie Davies.

Barneveld is a former postman who turned professional after his first Embassy title. He won the opening game of the first set, finishing it with a double one.

Davies, in contrast, struggled with nerves in his first world final, falling well behind before he even had a chance to settle in.

Barneveld, who won the title in 1998 and 1999, took the first set with a 132 finish despite Davies getting the first 180 of the evening in the same game.

The next sets went to the deciding game, but the Dutchman continually held the upper hand.

Barneveld showed his superior experience at the end of the third leg, hitting a treble 20, a single 20 and a double 18. Barneveld was now leading 3 sets to 0.

A 103 from Davies took the fourth set to another deciding leg but once again he failed to win the set as Barneveld finished it off with 11 darts.

Barneveld was now 4-0 up. But Davies came to life in the fifth set.

A poor first game went the Welshman's way, who needed 17 darts to win it. This gave him confidence and he won the fifth set in style with a 121 checkout. Davies went on to win the sixth set as well.

Barneveld, who at one stage had looked on course for a whitewash, fell apart in the seventh set cutting his lead to a single set. The score was now at 4 sets to Barneveld and Davies coming back with 3 sets.

The pair cranked up the level of the darts in the eighth set. Davies had a chance to level the scores with a 161 checkout. But the Welshman missed, allowing Barneveld to take the set, winning with a double 18.

The ninth and final set went to Barneveld, winning him the championship with a final checkout of 72. The final score being a 6-3 victory over Wales' Ritchie Davies.
