Help with the software and hardware you need to use Skillswise

How do I access Skillswise?

To view Skillswise you will need to have access to a computer and an internet connection - there is not an offline version of our website.  Here is what you will need in order to make the most of Skillswise.  If you have a question that is not answered here, take a look at our Frequently Asked Questions page.

Hardware requirements

To view our website all you will need is a PC, Mac or smart phone running a common operating system such as Windows, iOS, Android, Linux or similar - as well as an internet connection (dial-up or better).  BBC WebWise has lots of information to help you set up an internet connection

You will also need a web browser - see below for more information.

Software requirements

Most computers come with an internet browser already installed.  You can find more information about web browsers on BBC WebWise.

To access the quizzes, videos and audio files and to see the PDFs you may also need to install some plug-ins - most importantly, Adobe Flash and Adobe Reader.  This is easy to do, and free - WebWise has a comprehensive guide to help you.

Please note that if you're using Skillswise from some smart phones or other portable devices you might not be able to use our videos, quizzes and audio files as they require Adobe Flash.
