What's the response been so far?

Skillswise was launched in Spring 2002, but we still want YOU to be part of the building process. Please share your ideas and tell us what you think.

Take a look at some of the feedback we've received so far, and proof that we listen to you and make changes:

  • "Thanks for Skillswise, Its great fun to print off the pages twice, give one to my husband and one for myself. I found that we both went wrong in the same place, more than once. It's great to be learning again and testing ourselves is great fun. Thanks!" Chris (age 70), 25/05
  • "I'd like to thank you for all the hard work you're putting in to this site. I used it with my Literacy group for the first time just before Easter and the response was very positive. Those with Internet access at home are visiting the site independently, which speaks for itself.
The students loved the mixture of quizzes, games and worksheets, and even those who had never used a computer before were soon navigating like old hands, which illustrates how user friendly it is.
The students range from E1 to L2 and as it's a large group the stronger students helped the weaker where needed, which is a great way of learning and develops speaking/listening skills too.
Once again, congratulations on a great site for both students and tutors." Wendy, 12/04
  • "My student loved these activities. He is disabled and finds reading and writing difficult but doing Maths on computer really catches his attention and his interest. He enjoyed doing area today. It made Maths come alive for him. More please!" Nicola, 01/05
  • "I have used the Look, Say, Cover, Write with one of my students and it proved a very successful way of making this resource a bit more exciting! My student has dyslexic tendencies and the combination of good visual pictures, the practical movement of typing in the word and hearing the word spoken, I think is having much more impact. He also liked the fact he could print out his results at the end."" Rachel, 25/04

Some of the changes we have made

We asked you to cast your eagle eyes over the site to see how we could adapt it to best suit your needs. And the proof that we listen ...

Tutor tab Lots of you!

We added the tutor tab on the modules page

I have been using the quiz on the imperative & I disagree with one of the answers. 'No Smoking' is not an imperative (I think it's a gerund form). The imperative would be 'Do not smoke'. Alison, 12/11

We agreed and changed the quiz accordingly.

What would be HUGELY helpful in any material you produce would be for it to be referenced to the new curriculum. Tessa, 17/04

All new worksheets and factsheets now have the curriculum references on them. As we get time, we will also put these on the existing factsheets and worksheets.

"Sitting in a session at the moment and it has come up re: levels. Reference to levels within the games should be modified to a, b or c rather than 1,2,3." Lynn, 12/04

So we changed them!

"I think the Bargain Hunt game is too quick. It should be 20 seconds at least." Kathleen, 18/03

After receiving feedback from Kathleen and others about the speed of the Bargain Hunt game, we reworked it to get the timing right.

"On worksheet 1 of the 'Making Sentences' module all of the words have capital letters at the front. I think that it would be better just to have capital letters on words that ALWAYS have them, as my students find the whole idea of capital letters quite difficult and would be easily confused by this task." Donni, 23/08

So did we and changed it accordingly.
