Quick tips for tutors

  • MSS2/E2.1, E2.2, E2.3
  • This factsheet can be used to develop learners’ understanding of shapes by considering their main features. It also introduces descriptive language (circular, triangular and rectangular).
  • Use the examples to consider how the shape can be described.
  • Tutors can use (or ask learners to identify) shapes in the surroundings. These shapes can also be used to practise using these words in descriptions.
  • Familiar objects with a combination of shapes will help learners develop their understanding (e.g. a square faceplate with rectangular light switches, a rectangular bus with round wheels).
