Labour minister Gamini Lokuge said that the government has honured all it ‘s commitments on labour conventions ratified by the government of Sri lanka.

Responding to alegations made by the International Trade Union Confederation (ITUC) minister Lokuge said that when ever violations of the labour law has been reported the offenders have been punished .

“ I challenge these people who are bringing these allegations to come up with specific instances” said minister Lokuge.

The International Trade Union Confederation has reported to the World Trade Organisation that although Sri Lanka has ratified all eight of the International Labour Organization’s core conventions, it has largely failed to implement these conventions.

The United States Trade Representative is currently investigating whether workers’ rights violations warrant removing Sri Lanka from the united states own GSP scheme.
