Student Protest
University students who were leaving the Kelaniya campus were attacked by an organised mob said the Inter University Students Federation.

Chamika Sanadruwan an undergraduate of the Kelaniya campus said that students were leaving the campus complying to a court order.

“The mob first put me in to a three wheeler and the police just watched” said Chamika Sanadaruwan.

He said that the police refused to record a complaint about the attack.

The Inter University Students Federation (IUSL) say that the mobs were connected to government politicians of the Gampaha District.

The government says that it would investigate the attack.

Director General of the Media Centre for National Security (MCNS) Luxman Hulugalle said that students are unable to go to the police who they have previously attacked.

IUSL convener Udul Premaratne told BBC sandesaya that they approched the police headquarters to lodge a complaint as they believed that the local police stations were under the control of government politicians.

However MCNS Director General said that the government will look in to the attacks on university students.
