The mission is to offer free medical and dental care at various locations
A group of US military personnel has arrived in Sri Lanka for a combined medical and engineering mission, the US embassy in Colombo said.

The mission, called Pacific Angel-Sri Lanka, will be carried out at various sites near Anuradhapura and Puttalam, together with the Sri Lankan government and representatives from the Maldives and Mongolia, it said.

“It will offer free medical and dental care and also feature repairs and construction to support local schools,” a statement issued by the US embassy said.

“It is a pleasure and an honor for me and my team of professional Airmen and Soldiers to be here as guests of the Sri Lankan government,” U.S. Air Force Reserves Col. Wes Cockman, Pacific Angel-Sri Lanka mission commander, was quoted by the embassy.

The mission begins its work on Monday and will continue through Saturday, at centers in Puttalam Town Hall, Medawachchiya hospital, Cheddikulam School, Mahasiyambalagaskada Vidyalaya, Neriyakulam Township and Semandaluwa Kanishta Vidyalaya, Puttalam.

The United States earlier said it will contribute Rs. 581 million ($5.417 million) for humanitarian demining needs in Sri Lanka until next summer.

“These funds follow on the Rs. 742 million ($6.6 million) contribution from the United States last July to the four international demining agencies currently working in the North,” a US embassy statement issued earlier said.
