The Tamil Nadu government has pledged to look after Parvathi Pillai, the mother of LTTE leader Velupillai Prabhakaran.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi made the comments in New Delhi after meeting the Prime Minister and the Congress Party chief on Monday. He said that she would be given medical care under the government’s supervision. “She being under our supervision does not mean she will be in our custody. She will be in the hospital under our protection and care. She will have to take treatment at the hospital identified by the government of Tamil Nadu,” he said. She was earlier deported by the Indian government when she tried to enter India, for medical treatment, from Malaysia. The Sri Lankan government earlier allowed her, who was in military custody after the defeat of the LTTE, to leave Sri Lanka after the demise of her husband, Thiruvenkadam Velupillai, whose remains were buried in Velvetithurai in northern Sri Lanka. Prabhakaran's one sister lives in Canada and the other in Tamil Nadu. His elder brother, Manoharan, lives in Denmark. |
