Three police officers of the Hatton police station have been I suspended from duty following a brutal assault on a three
wheel driver.
The victim’s wife Namali Gunathilaka told BBC Sinhala service that her husband Samantha Deepal Gamage, returning home was assaulted without mercy by Police officers who demanded a free ride. “He gave them a lift as they said that they were going in the same direction. However, half way through they demanded to take them back to town. He had been assaulted because he refused,” said Namali Gunathilaka. She further said that the police officers had continued to assault her husband and later taken him to several private doctors who had refused to treat him due to the serious nature of the injuries. “He is now hospitalised in Nawalapitiya and we fear for his safety” said Namali Gunathilaka. Hatton headquarters inspector (HQI) E.P Thilakaratna said that the three police constables who have been called for inquiries have failed to do so. When asked regarding the security of the victim “there is nothing to fear” said Inspector Thilakaratna. |
