The International Monetary Fund -- the IMF -- has approved the second portion of a loan to Sri Lanka to help the country overcome
the economic crisis.
An official said the executive board of the IMF had decided to release nearly three-hundred-and-thirty million dollars after
a review of Sri Lanka's economic performance.
It said recent economic developments in Sri Lanka had been stronger than expected.
The IMF decided to give about two-point-six-billion-dollar loan to Sri Lanka in July this year (despite donors' concern about
its human rights record.
The donor countries cited humanitarian concerns arising from the government's defeat of the Tamil Tiger rebels in May.
