'Further probes' over LTTE leaders

Investigations are continued over two senior Tamil Tigers surrendered during the last phase of the war, police in Sri Lanka
say.
The police earlier did not object to granting bail for Daya Master and George Master, the former LTTE media spokesman and the interpreter for LTTE leaders, respectively. Submitting a report to the court, the criminal investigation department (CID) said the police are still investigating whether the pair was involved in any criminal activity. Police are also questioning the former LTTE members arrested in camps for internally displaced people (IDPs) to find out more details about their activities, the report said. It also said that the investigations are currently being conducted under the normal law as there was no evidence to suggest they have committed any offence under Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA). Both Daya Master and George Master appeared before the courts on Friday. The case was postponed until 15 January. |
