Colombo blast

Meanwhile, there's been an explosion in a busy area of the Sri Lankan capital, Colombo.

Military spokesman Brig. Udaya Nanayakkara said one person received minor injuries in the blast which happened inside a car park; several vehicles were damaged.

Meanwhile, the army said two Tamil Tiger rebels were killed in clashes with security forces in the east.

The Sri Lankan military is currently engaged in fierce battles with the rebels to try to capture territory from them in the northern region.

On Sunday, a civilian was killed and nine others including security service personnel were injured in a suicide bomb blast in the northern Sri Lankan town of Vavuniya.

Authorities accused the Tamil Tigers of carrying out the attack.
