The judiciary in Sri Lanka has acquitted four suspects arrested on suspicion of helping the murder of a senior Sri Lanka Army
(SLA) officer.
The Colombo magistrate ordered the police to release four suspects remanded in custody for helping the murder of Major Thuvan Nizam Muthalif. In a report to the magistrate, the Criminal Investigation Division (CID) of the police informed that the Attorney General has ruled there was no sufficient evidence to charge the suspects. Major Muthalif, the head of SLA intelligence unit, was shot dead on 31 May 2005 in Narahenpita, a Colombo suburb. EW Sanjeewa, AR Karunaratne, Arumugam Sendilkumar and Rajaratnam Saraswathie were arrested on suspicion of helping the murder. |
