Sri Lanka "mourns" Bhutto killing

Sri Lanka government says it is deeply saddened with the assassination of Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.
"We don't approve the way that terrorism raises its head in this manner", Foreign Minister Rohitha Bogollagama said. Sri Lanka as a nation that is against terrorism, extends its support to Pakistan in efforts to eradicate terrorism, he said. Symbol of democracy Former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto was a symbol of democracy and secularism says Former President Chandrika Bandaranaike Kumaratunge. Kumaratunge said Bhutto was eliminated from the political scene by all those who always benefit from "war, racism, arms deals and those who wish to rule by military power". She further said, "May this not happen to anyone else in other countries in the region". Huge loss The assassination of Former Premier Benazir Bhutto will destabilise Pakistan and the whole process of establishing democracy. "It is a blow to the whole of South Asia", Wikcremasinghe said. Points to President Former Minister for Heritage Minister Anura Bandaranaike said that the Bhutto assassination "points directly at the hands of the president". He said that he knew her personally as a person who was a "courageous, determined and charismatic leader". |
