PNM accuses Norway of being biased to Tamil Tigers
Patriotic National Movement (PNM), has called for removal of Norway as the peace broker for Sri Lanka.

PNM General Secretary Wimal Weerawansa told journalists in Colombo that it is high time that Sri Lanka initiates its own “Roadmap” without foreign involvement.

Weerawansa is the parliamentary group leader of Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP), a politcal ally of President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

Samaraweera visit

PNM president Dr. Gunadasa Amarasekara dismissed comments by Foreign Minister Mangala Samaraweera in Oslo that Norwegian facilitator’s role in Sri Lanka has been useful.

“We are not concerned of Mr. Mangala Samaraweera’s certificates,” he said.

Parliamentarian Weerawansa accused Norwegian Minister for International Development Erik Solheim of criticising EU ban on Tamil Tigers.

EU ban

Addressing media in Oslo after failed talks between the parties on Thursday, Minister Solheim refused to comment on the EU ban.

“It might have complicated the matter but I would not like to comment on EU matters,” he said.

The PNM also urged the government to ban the Tamil Tigers in Sri Lanka.

Dr. Amarasekara said it will not be difficult to pull out from the Cease Fire Agreement (CFA) signed in February 2002, if Norway is removed as peace facilitator.
