Mine blast kills rebel commander

Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka say one of their commanders has been killed in a land mine explosion in the northwest of the country.

Three other Tamil Tigers died in the blast, which happened in the rebel-held region of Mannar.

The rebels accused government forces of activating the mine, but the Sri Lankan military spokesman Prasad Samarasinghe insisted there'd been no army soldiers in the area.

Continuing violence between government troops and rebel forces have sparked fears for the future of a shaky four-year-old cease-fire.
