'Last attempts' to save Geneva talks
The international truce monitors and the Norwegian government are in Kilinochchi trying to persuade the Tamil Tigers to change their stance on talks with the Sri Lanka government. Head of Sri Lanka monitoring Mission (SLMM), Ulf Henricson, and first secretary of the Norwegian Embassy in Colombo are discussing proposals put forward by the GoSL. Plan Implementation Minister Keheliya Rambukwella said that the officials are discussing government proposals in detail with regard to the air travel of LTTE eastern leaders. “Unfortunately it is informed that Thamilselvan is not contactable at the moment, but these representatives will stay even overnight in order to hand over the comprehensive travel arrangement,” he told BBC Sandeshaya. The minister expressed hope that the LTTE will accept the plan and the Geneva talks would go ahead. “If otherwise we will have to take the next course of action.” | LOCAL LINKS Government willing to talk 20 April, 2006 | Sandeshaya Trinco residents fleeing violence18 April, 2006 | Sandeshaya LTTE 'considering' chopper offer18 April, 2006 | Sandeshaya Private choppers for LTTE17 April, 2006 | Sandeshaya SL govt. and LTTE talk of 'obstacles'16 April, 2006 | Sandeshaya New dates agreed for Geneva talks14 April, 2006 | Sandeshaya
