Resolved to combat extremism and terrorism

Pakistan and Sri Lanka have agreed to further strengthen their multifaceted and multisectoral cooperation in education, culture, commerce and trade, science and technology, and tourism for their common benefit.

This has been state in a joint statement issued about the visit of President Mahida Rajapakse of Sri Lanka to Pakistan.

It says, during the visit, the two sides exchanged views on a range of bilateral, regional and international issues.

The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to promote peace, stability, and economic development through cooperation and consultations.

They expressed their resolve to combat extremism and terrorism in all its forms through preserving their shared values and principles in the interest of peace and progress of the societies.

Pakistan reaffirmed its support for territorial integrity and sovereignty of Sri Lanka and for the ongoing peace process in the country.

The Pakistan side briefed about the ongoing composite dialogue process with India aimed at resolving all outstanding issues between the two countries.

The two sides also agreed to further strengthen SAARC [South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation] and expressed satisfaction on the ratification of SAFTA [South Asia Free Trade Agreement] by all member states.

It was agreed that Pakistani and Sri Lankan aviation authorities will hold consultations to further boost cooperation, particularly between their private sectors.

Pakistan and Sri Lanka decided on Friday to enhance their political and economic ties and agreed to encourage greater interaction between their business communities.

President Pervez Musharraf and Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz accepted President Rajapakse's invitation to visit Sri Lanka at mutually convenient dates.
