Northern Fishing restrictions relaxed
 
A catch  of fish
A rich harvest
The Government has decided to relax restrictions placed on fishing in the Northern peninsula.

Speaking to Sandeshaya Defence spokesman Brigadier Prasad Samarasinha said that now fisherman in the North will be able to fish in areas that that were allowed to go as soon as the cease fire agreement was signed.

“As there was LTTE activity in the sea and boats with explosives were detected we had to restrict fishing in December last year “said Samarasinha

Explaining the reasons for the decision the defence spokesman said that things have improved since peace talks in Geneva begun.

The spokesman said that the government has also taken in to consideration representations made by the fisherman’s organizations of the area.

Responding to a question Brigadier Samarasinha said that the government hopes the Tamil Tigers will not use this opportunity to transport arms.

He said “we all need peace”
