LTTE police investigates SL police | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
Sri Lankan authorities have sought international assistance for the release of a group of police officers, detained by Tamil Tigers. Child Protection Authority (CPA) said that six police officers have gone to rebel-held area near Mannar in search of a suspected paedophile. Dr. Hiranthi Wijemanna, head of the CPA, admitted the officers have failed to seek LTTE’s permission before entering the rebel-held area. According to Dr. Wijemanna, the CPA was informed that a 53-year old convicted European paedophile is hiding in the area. The LTTE have already released three women officers with two catholic priests who went to rebel held territory, but three others remain in LTTE custody, she added. Tamil Tigers said the arrested are soon to be produced before courts. LTTE spokesman Daya Master told the BBC that LTTE police are still investigating. The CPA has sought the help of Sri Lanka monitoring Mission (SLMM) and UNICEF to resolve the matter, Dr. Wijemanna said. |
