The government administrator for Thirukkovil in Ampara, A K Thavaraja has been shot dead by unidentified gunmen. Divisional Secretary Thavaraja was the government's main administrative officer in charge of relief operations in the area after December's devastating tsunami. Gunmen who reportedly arrived in a motorbycle have shot Thavaraja and fled. The police have begun investigations. |
