Politically motivated killings in the east
 
The deputy leader of the Trincomalee Elam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in the town on Monday around 10.30 a.m. Police searched the area immediately but did not arrest any one.

It was revealed at the inquest that five shots had been fired.

Wijeydasa a farther of two children was returning with a companion after visiting the Koneswearan temple.

The EPDP leadership of Trincomalee accused the Tamil tigers of the killing.

A spokesperson of the Trincomalee LTTE office said that “there are so many with guns in this town and we don’t know who did it “.

Meanwhile, in Kalmunai Police found the body of a man who was shot dead Sunday night around 10.30. The Police believe it is a politically motivated killing. The dead man was identified as S. Arulampalam.
