Making Tracks 2006 - Around the World in 60 minutes...
The BBC Singers hosted their first 'Making Tracks Live' event on February 27th 2004.
This event was the culmination of a week of workshops run by the entire team of the BBC Singers led by Bob Chilcott and Ronald Corp. They worked during the week in 12 schools in the boroughs of Hammersmith & Fulham and Hackney, including special needs schools. Each school involved received a full day's singing workshop which focused on rehearsing certain choral pieces for the 'Making Tracks Live' concert on the Friday afternoon.
Each school had 6 BBC Singers visit them. Bob Chilcott and Ronald Corp also visited the schools throughout the week, teaching repertoire and supporting the singers in their workshops. Teachers were encouraged to develop new skills in choral work which helped them develop their own school choirs after the project had ended.
On Friday 27th February, all of those involved (approximately 400 youngsters) attended the live concert at The Ocean Music Venue in Hackney at 1:30pm in which they not only heard the BBC Singers perform a selection of songs, but also (and uniquely), every person involved performed themselves at some stage during this concert. The concert was interspersed by numbers performed solely by the BBC Singers, although the emphasis was on participation throughout. The finale of the concert was a huge 'sing-a-long' where everyone in the auditorium joined in, proving that everyone can sing, and that music is a force which brings people together from every background.
This concert was presented by Adrian Dickson and Angelica Bell, and was 100% interactive, participatory and FUN!
